The Best Wedding Photos are the ones you don’t plan

Let’s be honest for a moment. When you start planning your wedding, one of the biggest worries usually sounds something like this: “I hate having my photo taken. I don’t want to spend my wedding day standing in a line forcing a smile.”

I hear this from couples all the time. And you know what? You are absolutely right. Your wedding is a celebration, not a photoshoot.

Over my 13 years as a photographer in Leicester and across the UK, I’ve found that the images couples cherish the most aren’t the ones where everyone is looking at the camera. It’s the split-second glance your partner gives you during the vows. It’s your dad wiping away a tear when he thinks no one is looking. It’s the belly laughs during the speeches. These are the “emotive” images I specialise in.

Why “Natural” Wins Every Time When we force a pose, we often lose the spark. A natural, documentary-style approach allows the day to flow organically. My job isn’t to stop the action; it’s to anticipate it. Because I’m multi-award-winning, I’ve trained my eye to spot those fleeting moments before they happen.

Finding the Balance Does this mean we don’t do any group shots? Of course not. Grandma usually wants a nice one for the mantelpiece! But my approach is to keep the formal shots short, sweet, and relaxed, so you can get back to your champagne and your guests.

My Advice for Your Big Day:

Ignore Me: Seriously. The best photos happen when you forget I’m there. Focus on your partner and your guests.

Trust the Timeline: We will carve out a small window for portraits, but we’ll make it a walk and a chat rather than a stiff session.

Let Emotions Flow: If you want to cry, cry! If you want to laugh until it hurts, do it. Real emotion is timeless.

If you’re looking for a photographer who captures the feeling of the day, not just the look of it, let’s have a chat.
