We live in a digital world. I love the convenience of it—being able to send a gallery to a client in Leicester while they are on their honeymoon in Bali is incredible. But there is a hidden downside to the digital age that, as a photographer with 13 years of experience, I feel I need to talk about.
I call it the “I’ll do it later” trap.
You receive your beautiful gallery of wedding or family photos. You swipe through them on your phone, you share your favourites on Instagram, and you change your Facebook profile picture. Then, you download the files to a laptop or a USB stick, promising yourself you’ll make an album “when things quiet down.”
But life gets busy. The USB stick goes in a drawer. The laptop gets replaced. And those memories sit there, trapped in a digital format, unseen.
The Magic of Holding a Memory There is a profound difference between scrolling past an image on a glowing screen and physically holding a photograph in your hands. A professionally printed album or a framed portrait on the wall becomes a part of your daily life. It becomes a conversation starter when friends come over. It becomes something your children flip through on a rainy Sunday afternoon.
Technology Fades, Prints Remain Think about it: how many of us have floppy discs or CDs from the early 2000s that we can no longer access? Technology moves fast. Hard drives fail. Clouds accounts get lost.
High-quality, professional prints are archival. They are designed to last for generations. When I photograph your wedding or your family, I’m not just creating content for your social media feed for the next 24 hours. I am creating a legacy for your family for the next 50 years.
My Advice? Don’t let your memories gather digital dust. Whether it’s a stunning Fine Art album of your wedding day or a series of framed prints from our outdoor family session, make sure your photos exist in the real world.
If you’re not sure where to start with printing, just ask. I can help you design something beautiful that you—and your grandchildren—will treasure forever.
