We are incredibly lucky to live in the East Midlands. Leicestershire strikes this perfect balance between industrial, urban heritage and stunning, rolling countryside. When clients ask me, “Where should we do our shoot?”, I’m never short of ideas.
Whether you are looking for a romantic backdrop for an engagement session or a wide-open space for the kids to run wild, here are a few of my favourite local spots.
1. Bradgate Park It’s a classic for a reason. The rugged landscape, the bracken, the deer, and the ruins of Old John offer a dramatic, heathland vibe that looks stunning in photos. It’s particularly magical during “golden hour” (the hour before sunset).
2. New Walk, Leicester City Centre If you prefer an urban but leafy vibe, New Walk is beautiful. The Georgian architecture and the line of trees create wonderful leading lines for portraits. It’s perfect for couples who want a city feel without the traffic.
3. Abbey Park This is a great all-rounder. You have the manicured flower gardens for a traditional look, but also the ruins of Leicester Abbey for something more textural and historic. It offers great variety within a short walking distance.
4. Beacon Hill Country Park For those who want sweeping views, Beacon Hill is the spot. The native woodlands are great for family adventures (and finding stick men!), and the rock formations at the top provide a stunning, elevated backdrop.
5. Your Own Back Garden Sometimes, the most meaningful location is your own home. If you have a garden, or even a favourite local park you walk the dog in every Sunday, let’s go there. The best location is often one that holds sentimental value to you.
Have a location in mind that I haven’t listed? I love exploring new spots. Send me a message, and let’s plan your perfect session.
